The Eureka Wildcats bounced back from Friday's semifinal loss to Cor Jesu by beating Jefferson City, 1-0, in Saturday's Class 4A Third Place game.
Senior Melanie Wallach, pitching her final game in a Eureka uniform, pitched a one hit shutout and layed down a key sacrifice bunt which helped the Wilcats score the game's only run in the first.
"We were just real excited to play today; we were ready to take third," said Wallach.
In that Eureka first, Haley Viefhaus singled and advanced to second on Wallach's bunt.  Adie Viefhaus then stroked a run-scoring single to put Eureka ahead, 1-0.  There would be no more scoring.
"I'm just happy it turned out this way," said Eureka coach and Melanie's father, Brad Wallach.  These girls de

serve all the success in the world.  They've worked hard for it."
The Wildcats closed the season with a record of 29-3.
